A Recce of the Garo Hills
We stood in the parking lot of Pappu Da Dhaba, making our final preparations for the night drive ahead. The creamy richness of its famed Malai Chicken still lingered as the moan of the ambling trucks faded into the darkness. The night, initially warm, had yielded to a burst of thunderstorm, that chilled us to the bone. We were just getting started of what was another foray into Eastern highlands of Meghalaya.
Of things to remember was a night spent in a solitary cottage, cheesy pizzas experienced in ultimate wilderness and voices of men in the dead of the night. We also remembered a breathtaking drive from Tura to Shillong, a journey of
300 kms that cut Meghalaya from East to West passing through hills, skirting through villages and bazaars, churches and schools. And then the gurgling waterfalls of Lyngksiar and Wei Sawdong.
It was our first trip since the Sandakphu and Mouchuki/Gorumara drive and we wanted to explore the Garo Hills and Shillong.
